When fengshui states " sink in the south" what does that mean, your back to the south or north?

It means your back to the South and facing North. When you look out of your house you see North and South is inside the house, so the house is sitting South and facing North. Actually the word is not "sink" but "sitting". Two words are used in directions The facing direction and The sitting directions.
